As September draws to a close, we are so grateful (and proud!) that we have had such a smooth start to the school year! The children have transitioned unbelievably well, and have settled into their routines. The halls and classrooms are once again filled with their artwork and evidence of their learning. It is so heartwarming to see friendships among classmates rekindle or form anew, and we have been humbled by each comment you have shared – whether it be how happy your child is to come to school each day (or upset when not at school!), how much they love their teachers, or even just letting us know we’re doing a good job with our COVID protocols – these sentiments validate what makes Zion’s Hill Preschool special and necessary for our community. Now more than ever, we are so thankful for the partnership we share with our families. Our teachers are doing an amazing job – from adjusting to new drop-off and pick-up procedures, adapting curriculum for outdoor learning, remaining conscientious about sanitation efforts – all with nary a complaint! And families, YOU are doing an amazing job! Many of you are adjusting to new routines too, may be overseeing hybrid learning with older children, juggling jobs and commitments, welcoming new babies… but you have all taken a leap of faith of sorts in entrusting your little ones in our care. This is not a privilege we take lightly, especially during these times, and I want to thank you for your continued cooperation and vigilance as we keep the health and safety of your children our collective priority.
October promises to be fun-filled and festive. Our monthly “specials” of music and yoga with ZHPP’s own Miss JoAnne, and Spanish with the always-entertaining Senora Vicky, will begin, and we will take advantage of the still-bright days to spend time in the Bike Park and maximize outdoor learning opportunities. We look forward to “seeing” you at our first-ever virtual Open House, the children will show off their pearly whites during Photo Days, and we’ll close the month with a real “treat” – our annual Halloween parades and classroom celebrations. Fun and festive, indeed!
Fall Family Photos with “Moments By Andrea Photography”
Wilton photographer and former ZHPP mom, Andrea Topalian, is donating her time and talent to benefit our school. ZHPP is a very special place for Andrea, not only because her three children attended, but also because she was inspired to start her career as a photographer after taking photos in her daughter’s 2’s class!
When you donate $50 to Zion’s Hill, Andrea will give you $75 off the cost of your session fee. If you are a new client, you will also receive an additional 10% off your digital images. Take a look at the special ZHPP page on her website for more details and to read more about her story and this longtime special ZHPP fall event.
Sign up soon if you are interested! Andrea will capture beautiful memories for you from this unique year.
Bonus! Andrea is looking to fill her October 3 time slots and offering 20 minutes for the price of a mini session!
Did you know that tuition does not cover the cost of the school’s daily operations? Instead, Zion’s Hill Preschool Program holds an Annual Appeal each fall in order to fund everything from rent to Enrichment Programming (e.g., Spanish, yoga and music, Masterpiece, etc.). The Annual Appeal will kick off in October so please be on the lookout for additional information. If you have any questions, feel free to contact our fundraising chairs, Melissa Fensterstock, Karen Kupinse, and Kelli McGee, at firstname.lastname@example.org. We look forward to your participation, and thank you in advance for your consideration!
The State is requiring children three years of age and older to wear face coverings while at school, with phase-in continuing through October 19, 2020. Please refer to information on mask-wearing for young children provided by the CT Office of Early Childhood. Thank you for your continued cooperation as we support the health and safety of our children, staff and families.
Please be sure to read ZHPP’s Revised Mask Wearing Policy.
Drop-ins for extended programming (Early Bird, Afternoon Adventures, Extensions) require a MINIMUM of 24 hour notice. Adherence to this policy is particularly important this year as we manage staffing and cohorts. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated as we work within our new safety protocols to ensure that our extended programming remains feasible!
Daily Health Screen through Tadpoles
Please complete the daily health screen through Tadpoles before drop-off if possible. It really helps to streamline the drop-off process and eliminate congestion.
Per State regulations, hand sanitizer must be kept out of the reach of children. Please do not send your child to school with sanitizer in a pocket or backpack where it may be readily accessible. Instead, please provide to the classroom teacher directly. The teachers may administer hand sanitizer when hand washing is not readily available (e.g., on the playground, while children are on the bikes, etc.).
Dress for the Weather
Please dress the children appropriately each day, with extra layers or rain gear as needed. We are maximizing our time outdoors – even in the rain! – and throughout the fall will also hold Spanish, music and yoga outside. We also recommend bringing in a towel for your child as well.
Please be sure to notify the office and your child’s teacher if someone other than a designated caregiver will be picking up your child. We will also check the driver’s license or another form of ID when alternative pick-up arrangements are made.
Parking Lot Safety
Please use extreme caution when driving and walking in the parking lot—many little bodies are underfoot and can be difficult to see! Hold your child’s hand and watch for cars. We recommend entering through the lower driveway and exiting from the upper driveway during the busy drop-off and pick-up times.
Please review ZHPP’s COVID-19 Policies and Procedures and At-Home Health Checklist.
