May flowers are abundant around the school as many of the classrooms started planting in the gardening boxes this month. April was a short month but packed full of excitement as always.
The Week of the Young Child is one of the most rewarding parts of the year, when we come together as a community to celebrate the children.
It was so compelling to see all of the families come out and participate in Parents and Pastries, the Parade and the Pizza Party. The spirit days that included hat, tie dye day, and kid’s choice day were a lot of fun for all. The children also participated in music, yoga and Spanish this month.
Spring Parent Conferences started and will finish this month. It is so wonderful to hear about the progress that all of the children have made during the school year.
The playgrounds are looking fantastic after the help of many families to get the toys sparkling clean and the sandboxes and mulch into shape for us all to use. We have some beautiful weather ahead of us to enjoy and the kids will love the new sand toys that are going to be waiting for them.
May will be a month full of memories. The children will show the teachers how much they appreciate them from May 1-5. We will all get to see the baby animals from Stamford Nature Center on May 4 and 5. Physical activity will be encouraged with Bike Day and the Mini Marathon. The celebrations continue with our bi-annual Family Fun Day and Wilton’s Memorial Day Parade.
We are all looking forward to a memorable May!

Bike Day will be on Wednesday, May 17th for the Fours and Fives classes. Each child may bring his or her bike and helmet on this day. The teachers will take the children out during the day to ride around the parking lot on their own bikes. This is very exciting for the children to show off their special bikes.
End-of-Year Family Fun Day
Save the Date! Our Spring Family Fun Day will be held at the backyard of ZHPP on Saturday, May 21st from 10:30am-12:30pm. Join us for a fun filled morning of games, entertainment, play, food, and other surprises! If you are interested in helping to organize this fun event, please email Melissa Leonard at firstname.lastname@example.org
The Mini Marathon is a Zion’s Hill tradition that was started by a group of moms who enjoyed running. The event will take place on Friday, May 26th at 9:15 am. Parents will run laps around the parking lot with the children while the staff members facilitate the race. There will be time keepers, a water station, start and finish lines and cheerleaders. The children will run 1 lap less than their age (2 year old – 1 lap, 5 year old – 4 laps). This is a fun event for all to partake in as a group. Spectators are welcome. If you are interested in running with your child’s class, please tell your child’s teacher.
Memorial Day Parade
Any family wishing to participate in the Wilton Memorial Day parade with Zion’s Hill Preschool is welcome. The group will be along the parade route and walk together in the parade. Kerri Ann O’Shea will be leading the group. The meeting time is 9:30am and step off is at 10:00am. The children march or ride in decorated wagons with their parents. Sign up information will be available soon.
Graduation/End of Year Celebrations
Each classroom will have an end of the year celebration and picnic. Children in the Fours and Fives classes will put on a presentation for the parents. This will include some songs, presentation of certificates and the opportunity to cross over the bridge as a rite of passage. The younger classrooms will have picnics to celebrate the end of the school year and moving on to their next program. These celebrations will occur on June 8th and 9th. Each classroom will provide specifics as the days get closer.
|A Visit from The Stamford Nature Center
The Stamford Nature Center will be visiting us on May 4th and 5th with all of the baby animals. The children will get a brief presentation about the animals and get to see and pet them. Animals are always a hit with all ages at our school.
Is your child entering Kindergarten in the fall? Then please join us on Wednesday, May 17th at 9:15 am in the conference room where fellow ZHPP parents who have older children at Miller-Driscoll will share helpful hints and advice regarding the transition to Kindergarten. Coffee, conversation and Q & A will be served! Please RSVP to the evite. Please keep an eye on the Social Events board in the lobby for other upcoming coffees and social functions!

Parent-Teacher conferences are a great opportunity for you to hear about the progress of your child. The teachers will sit with you for 15 to 30 minutes to review your child’s daily routine and show you work that he or she has created. This will also allow you time to ask any questions that you may have regarding your child’s learning. The teachers look forward to sharing the growth that they have seen in each child and highly encourage all families to participate.
Looking to have a date night, need a day of pampering, or just a babysitter in general? ZHPP staff and the daughters of many teachers are available to assist you. Here are our valued contacts to help meet your needs:
