May 31 No School- Memorial Day
Happy May! It’s hard to believe, but we are in the final few weeks of the 2020-2021 school year! I know this has been a very trying year, and we have all experienced much frustration and fatigue. Our top priority at Zion’s Hill Preschool has been the health and safety of the children, our staff and our families. With your support and cooperation, we have developed and adhered to protocols that have proven effective. Even this past month as restrictions around us began to lift, ZHPP doubled down, kept our policies in place, and refocused on finishing the year strong. THANK YOU!
And a strong (and fun!) end of the year it will be. We will have many of our beloved traditions, with some modifications of course – stay tuned for more details on our annual Bike Day, Mini-Marathon, and End-of-Year Celebrations. The teachers are looking forward to connecting with you during Spring Conferences, and sharing how much the children have developed.
Indeed, I am extremely grateful for the partnership shared between our families and staff. A special thank you to those who helped spruce up the playgrounds and yards at Spring Clean-up — everything looks great, and the children love the outdoor spaces so! Our spacious grounds have played prominently in our strategy this year, and even when COVID-19 is but a distant memory, outdoor learning will continue at ZHPP. With your generosity at the Spring Auction, we will look to make even more enhancements to support outdoor experiences. THANK YOU, and a special shout-out to our fundraising team who made this possible! I am also so proud of our teachers. They have worked tirelessly all year to plan and deliver enriching curriculum and form lasting connections with the children (not to mention the vigilant cleaning/steaming/sanitizing that occurs throughout the day!). Time and again, they have found ways to continue many of the wonderful events and traditions “normally” enjoyed at ZHPP. Teacher Appreciation Week could not come at a better time. THANK YOU!!
Spring Auction – Almost Over!
Get ready for some bidding! After months of planning and many generous contributions from the ZHPP community and local businesses, our 20th annual Spring Auction is online, May 3-7. Check out over 90 items up for bidding, including experiences, merchandise, class baskets, teacher playdates and dining gift cards. Proceeds will benefit our children by funding special class programming and improving our school environment in many ways.
Have fun and good luck! Thank you in advance for your support and generosity!
Happy Hands Pottery To Go Event
Looking for a fun and creative afternoon activity? Happy Hands Pottery in Wilton Center is partnering with us for a Pottery To Go event!
On May 10, you will receive an email with instructions on how to order a kit complete with everything your children need to complete the art and paint a ceramic masterpiece. Kits will be collected at school and returned after firing.
Spoiler alert. . . our pottery theme will be Sweet Treats! Cupcakes and doughnuts and ice cream, oh my!
Annual MeetingWednesday, May 12, 7:30pm
Please join us for the annual board meeting, open to the entire ZHPP community.
Bike DayWednesday, May 12
Calling all cyclists! The Four’s and the Five’s classes will participate in ZHPP’s annual Bike Day on Wednesday, May 12. While the children regularly enjoy zipping around the parking lot on our school provided bikes, there is nothing better than bringing their OWN bike to school! Each class will have a designated area near the front of the building for the children to park their bike and helmet at drop-off time. The teachers will take the children out during the day to ride around the parking lot — they love it! Please see the office with any questions.
Mini MarathonFriday, May 28
On your mark, get set, go! Lace up your sneakers for another favorite Zion’s Hill tradition — the Mini Marathon! Started by a group of moms that enjoy running, this fun event is perfect for little legs. The children will don racing bibs and run around the parking lot: one lap for the Two’s, two laps for the Three’s, and three laps for the Four’s and Five’s. Miss Brenda will be at the start and finish lines to keep official time and record any photo finishes, and will also man the water station. Please be on the lookout for more details from your child’s teacher.
Parent Teacher Conferences
Spring Conferences have begun and are scheduled throughout May. This is a great time to catch up and hear all the wonderful growth that has occurred throughout the year. Please don’t hesitate to see the office or your classroom teacher with any questions.
End of Year Celebrations
We are working hard to develop plans for end-of-year celebrations that will be both responsibly compliant with COVID-19 protocols and fun! Please stay tuned for more information.
Preparations are well under way for the 2021-2022 school year! Contracts and enrollment forms required for next year have been distributed. Please complete and return at your convenience, as this really helps streamline administrative requirements and ease back-to-school procedures. Specific classroom and teacher assignments will not be determined until this summer. Spots are filling quickly – there are only a few remaining! If you have any friends or neighbors considering ZHPP, please encourage them to call the office. As always, we are happy to answer any questions.
Have Fun in the Sun at ZHPP Summer Camp!
We will continue the fun at ZHPP into the summer! This year, we will be offering two weeks of camp: the week of June 14th and June 21st. Camp runs Monday through Friday each week, from 9:00am – 12:30pm. Children will enjoy arts and crafts, water play, and plenty of time outside – join us for some “Fun in the Sun”! Pricing is $260/week. Please note that camp is only open to current families at this time to maintain everyone’s health and safety. Be sure to submit your registration forms!
A gentle reminder that children must be supervised at all times during dismissal (drop-off too!). For everyone’s safety, we kindly ask that our grounds are cleared as quickly as possible and that children be promptly escorted to vehicles by a parent or caregiver. Please also remember to close gates behind you, and use extreme caution in the parking lot. Many little bodies are underfoot and can be difficult to see! Hold your child’s hand and watch for cars.
Daily Health Screen through Tadpoles
Please make every effort to complete the daily health screen through Tadpoles, as it really helps to streamline the drop-off process. Thank you for your continued cooperation!
Dress for the Weather
With the change of seasons – and the growth of the children! – please check your child’s spare clothing and update as needed. And remember to dress the children appropriately each day. We are spending lots of time outdoors – even in the rain! The temperature can also vary throughout the day – layers are key! Spare masks are also needed.
Spring is here, and with it… ticks! Zion’s Hill Preschool sprays our grounds for ticks annually (3x/year). On Saturday, May 15, the wooded areas surrounding the playgrounds will be sprayed by CT Tick Control. We would also like to remind you that tick checks should be completed nightly. If you do find a tick on your child, you should observe if it is attached and engorged, and notify your pediatrician for next steps. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Please be sure to read ZHPP’s Revised Mask Wearing Policy as well as the Covid-19 Q&A.
While Connecticut recently relaxed travel restrictions and there are currently no mandates or requirements in place, nonetheless the State asks that travelers follow the CDC recommendations, which include BOTH a COVID test 3-5 days after travel, AND a 7 day quarantine. After consulting with the local Health Department, and to avoid any confusion so late in the school year, Zion’s Hill Preschool will keep our current policy in place: self-quarantine for 10 days upon return, OR produce a negative COVID test. We ask that this test be taken 2-3 days after return to Connecticut, particularly if travel occurred by plane. This policy is based on Connecticut’s original travel requirements.
We understand that local public school guidance surrounding quarantines recently changed. However, experience has also shown that young children neither tend to exhibit the same level of symptoms, nor communicate how they may be feeling, in the same way as older children or adults. After carefully considering the CDC and CT Department of Public Health guidelines, and after consulting with Wilton’s Health Department, Zion’s Hill Preschool will keep our current quarantine policy in place. We continue to require a 14-day quarantine for those in “close contact” with COVID-positive individuals. Therefore if your child has been identified as a “close contact” of a COVID-positive individual, (s)he may return to Zion’s Hill Preschool Program 14 days from the last date of contact with the positive individual.
For other COVID-19 questions, please revisit ZHPP’s Covid-19 Q&A.
