Monica Sommer Director

Monica has been working with children for more than 20 years. She started by running a home daycare, then taught in Montessori and public kindergarten before starting at ZHPP in 1989. At Zion's Hill, Monica taught the two's and four's before being made director in early 2006.

Monica has a degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in Early Childhood Education. She has earned director's credentials from the state of CT. Monica has supplemented her education with classes, courses and workshops for early childhood educators and has attended numerous NAEYC conferences. She shares her knowledge with teachers through workshops at ZHPP and regional conferences.

As director, Monica focuses on encouraging the teachers to use their individual strengths while ensuring the school meets its goals for the children. She enjoys helping in the classrooms and guiding senior teachers as they work with new teachers. Monica also uses her years of experience to guide parents through the beginning of their child's education.

Monica loves guiding the staff to create environments that will enhance children's learning. It is important to Monica to support the teachers to include all cultures and an awareness of the world the children live in in the classroom activities.

Born in Trenton, NJ, Monica grew up in Woodstock, VT and now resides in Ridgefield.
